New Zealand businesses need to consider the online marketing potential of micro-blogging site Twitter seriously now Google and rival Bing are incorporating its content into search results.

That is the view of Auckland-based online marketing agency First Rate, which has published lists of the most-followed local Twitter accounts on its blog.

Google to launch Operating System

Google this month has announced its intention to launch an operating system putting it directly in line to take on Microsoft in its own back yard. The new operating system is to take advantage of the move towards 'cloud' computing.

Cloud computing is an important transition for both computer users and the internet and is a process where all of a users data and applications are stored on the internet and accessed via your internet browser. Cloud computing is already here for a lot of everyday software such as New Zealand's own Xero accouting software, Googles existing Google Docs (Google versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) and many more applications being released daily.

Email standards and Microsoft backlash

Microsoft have just confirmed they plan on using the crippled Word rendering engine to display HTML emails in Outlook 2010.

This means for the next 5 years email designs will need tables for layout, have no support for CSS like float and position and no background images. Not to mention the long list of bugs and quirks that break the simplest of layouts.
